Trauma is stored in our bodies. We may be able remember and discuss our feelings about a traumatic event, but if these are not processed on the level of the body; in our nervous system, true resolution does not occur.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® uses the clients somatic (body) experience as the access point for stored traumatic memories. This neurobiologically informed method helps to unlock these memories so that they can be resolved. The Sensorimotor trained Psychotherapist helps the client process these memories in a safe and effective manner. The goal is a successful integration of the residual traumatic memory across all levels (physical-emotional-mental). This leads to traumatic symptom reduction for the client.
